NORMATIVE MONITORING/02 TTS 2025: Evolution from ISO 6940:2004 to ISO/DIS 6940

Normative Values

17 June 2025

The ISO 6940:2004 standard, which specifies a method for measuring the ease of ignition of textile fabrics, is currently undergoing revision and is progressing towards ISO/DIS 6940, a Draft International Standard in the enquiry stage. This transition could potentially address a significant harmonization with ISO 4880. For a better understanding of fire behavior testing, ISO 4880 provides clear definitions of technical terms such as ease of ignition. ISO 6941 is a complementary standard. While ISO 6940 focuses on ease of ignition, ISO 6941 deals with flame spread. This standard measures the duration during which a flame propagates on a fabric after ignition. These standards are essential for ensuring the safety of textiles. They enable comprehensive evaluation by considering both the ease of ignition and flame spread properties. It is important for stakeholders in the textile sector to understand these fundamentals. To learn more about the specific points of these standards, stay tuned. TTS is here for you!
